Renaming from “90,000 Hours for Good” to “Work That’s Worth It”

Hello everyone, I have made some changes, and I want to bring you up to speed to minimize any confusion.

The Inspiration

My initial inspiration for embarking on writing my book began with reading an article from the HBR about the average career being 90,000 hours. Immediately, it seemed to come alive as I expanded on this idea towards “90,000 Hours for Good.”

This title seemed to work for me. By glancing at the title of the book, the reader was presented with the first lesson I wished to share: wow, 90,000 hours, really? That’s a long time. What if you used them for “good”? I loved how easy it was to engage people with this topic. But it did require an explanation…”Yes, the average career is 90,000 hours.” And after that, we were in a discussion about what those hours could mean.

Professionalizing the Book

When my publisher got the manuscript, they urged me to be open-minded about a name change. Along with requiring an explanation, here was their concern: The book may end up in a narrow corner of the social impact aisle, yet its appeal is much broader.

That was really compelling for me since I have always thought: why is there a small subsection of businesses we label “socially responsible”? Why not expect all businesses to be that? Or just require the ones that are not that way to explain themselves?

So, we started exploring title options, and we had a clear winner that fit the original tasks PLUS kept its appeal broad. I am really excited about where we ended up.

🎉 Introducing “Work That’s Worth It” 🎉

Naming Consolidation

Now, as a forthcoming author and podcaster, I am building my social media footprint, and I cannot sustain three brands: Georgi Enthoven (as the author), Work That’s Worth It (as the Book and Podcast), and 90,000 Hours for Good (the original platform). It’s too expensivecostly, time-consuming, and confusing!

So here is where I have landed:

  • Book Title: Work That’s Worth It
  • Podcast Title: Work That’s Worth It
  • My website: www.georgienthoven.com
  • My professional Instagram and Facebook accounts will be switched to my name too: @georgienthoven
  • When the book launches, we will also use the URL www.workthatsworthit.com

90,000 Hours is Still Relevant

For those who related deeply to the 90,000 Hours for Good concept, don’t worry, it’s still part of the journey I take readers on. In fact, my introductory chapter is titled: “The Power of Your 90,000-Hour Career.”

Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for being part of this exciting journey!
